Maths Addressing Misconceptions in Y1/2

This is a two session course over the year. Each session will begin with looking in depth at specific aspects of the curriculum in order to develop subject knowledge. The rest of the session will be given over to looking in depth at planning and assessment of these aspects of the curriculum.
As part of each half day session there will be time to share ideas and ask questions. Each session will give an update on the statutory assessment for year 2 for 2019. The course will also build in time to look at the look at mapping for mixed age classes as well as single form entry. There will be a gap task between the sessions.
Aspects for session 1: Place Value, number properties, calculation, addition and subtraction
Aspects for session 2: Fractions, multiplication and division and geometry
Aims
To have a secure knowledge of the maths curriculum within Y1 and 2 and the progression within it.
To understand what makes an effective teaching sequence and how to plan for this.
To have time to moderate and check out judgements across schools.
To have time to share, ask questions and reflect on current practice.
Staff are expected to attend both sessions in order to develop and consolidate their knowledge
