The focus over the couple of years for many schools has understandably been on getting to grips with the Interim Framework and supporting children to reach the expected standard in writing. However, increasingly Ofsted's focus has now moved to the number of children achieving greater depth.

This course focuses on supporting teachers in Year 6 to develop their understanding of greater depth, enabling them to make accurate, informed judgements. Delegates will look in depth at each of the criteria, developing their subject knowledge, looking at application of the criteria in writing and analysing what does and doesn't meet the standard.

Examples from STA will be used and delegates will have opportunities to discuss with colleagues and ask questions.

Aims

To understand what controlled and managed shifts in formality are

To know what the selection of verb forms for effect looks like

To be confident in the use of colons and semi colons for clauses

To develop a clear understanding of what the expectations look like for greater depth across a portfolio of writing

To know what an effective evidence base looks like

This training is suitable for Y6 Teachers / English Subject Leaders
