Phil Beadle, Inspired Education

Phil Beadle firmly believes that: "Oracy is not being taken seriously enough. "If you can't speak it, you can't write it", so if we want to improve the written outcomes for our children, we must first give them the opportunity to develop their oral communication. How do you get better at something? You practise! If we want our children to improve their written communication skills, then they must write every day, of course; but they must also speak to each other in a fluent standard version of the language they are to write in".

Phil's session will focus on how to reinvigorate teaching in literacy, focussing specifically on how children can learn through talk and how it is also fundamental to supporting the development of reading and writing skills. It will be inspiring and engaging (his sessions always are!) but also practical with lots of ideas staff can take away to use in developing oracy skills which will help improve not only children's writing but also their confidence and self-esteem!

Phil Beadle provides hugely entertaining and challenging sessions and is one of the most experienced and well thought of education speakers in the United Kingdom and beyond. He will provide practical strategies to improve the use of oracy rather than just woolly exhortations to do better. Phil is the author of 10 books about teaching and learning including the influential and best-selling 'How to Teach', which was awarded 10/10 by the TES. He has also take part in several TV series including Channel 4's Unteachables and Can't Read, Can't Write
