Early Careers: Supporting Children with Phonics 1

Overall outcomes by the end of the two sessions will include:
- a clearer understanding of the importance of phonics in the wider curriculum
- improved personal subject knowledge
- a creative approach (including the outdoor classroom) to planning for daily phonics lessons
- improved understanding of the role of the Phonics Screening Check & how to prepare teachers and pupils for it
- how to implement interventions in phonics
- Ideas to use in a more engaging and diverse phonics curriculum
Session one will cover an audit of personal subject knowledge and confidence about teaching phonics, outline of phonics and its role in the wider curriculum, discussion about how student teachers would like to improve their own subject knowledge, a look at how to say sounds and the different terminology used when teaching phonics, discussion about planning and activities that they have seen or used.
